Spoken Futures: Project Highlights
“Community is where you belong”
— Student during Q&A
We worked with young people as part of our Spoken Futures project to bring their thoughts, experiences and voices on this question to the stage. In an evening finale of poetry, rap and spoken word performance, students across three schools came together at Rich Mix to share their experiences and learn from each other.
A series of creative learning sessions leading up to the performance event supported students to grow their confidence and craft in creative writing, while also giving spaces to learn about each other’s cultures and ideas. We ended the event with a post-show Q&A, where students answered questions about how community, identity and belonging exist in their spaces.
The project was delivered by creative facilitator Hana Jarrah with the support of London-based rapper AWATE and poet Rakaya Fetuga. The project was made possible with funding from the Tower Hamlets Council Strategy and Communities Team.
