The Recycling Lab: School Waste Management Toolkit

Schools in Tower Hamlets generate large amounts of waste each year. When the wrong items go into the wrong bin — known as contamination — recyclable materials can be rejected and sent for disposal instead of being recycled. This wastes resources, increases costs and undermines the efforts of pupils, staff and families who are trying to recycle correctly.

This toolkit gives teachers and pupils practical activities to explore what is currently happening in their school, identify changes that could make a difference, and create a clear plan for action.

This toolkit has been created as part of The Recycling Lab, a Creative STEM schools programme with UCL, supporting secondary and primary schools to develop climate solutions for Tower Hamlets.
